The Blake School practices a policy of open admissions without discrimination on the basis of race, ethnic origin, color, or national origin. The Blake School admissions are based upon space availability. All students are required to follow the rules and regulations set forth in the Parent / Student Handbook. The Blake School is a Montessori based educational system beginning at age 3 years and continuing through the 12th grade. The school is organized into “Cluster units” as follows:
The Early Childhood Cluster
This unit encompasses students from age three years to six years. When this unit is filled to capacity, the student / teacher ratio is sixteen to one. The only prerequisite for this unit is that all students are “Potty trained”. No “Pull-ups”. The meticulously prepared environment of this unit includes but is not confined to individualized lessons for every child, which provides excitement and movement. These lessons provide the broad basis for all future learning skills. This environment also includes all state mandated course subjects for Kindergarten and 1st grade plus a whole lot more!
The Blake School becomes departmentalized at the elementary grade level. The students move from classroom to classroom as the published schedule for each year provides. This allows each teacher to fully prepare and completely organize each room to the smallest detail to accommodate the student’s needs while pursuing each particular subject.
Primary Cluster
This unit includes all students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. The student / teacher ratio is sixteen to one when this cluster is filled to capacity.
Intermediate Cluster
This unit includes all students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. The student / teacher ratio is sixteen to one when this cluster is filled to capacity.
Junior Cluster
This unit includes all students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The student / teacher ratio is sixteen to one when this cluster is filled to capacity.
Senior Cluster
This unit includes all students in the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades. The student / teacher ratio is sixteen to one when this cluster is filled to capacity. Entrance into the Senior cluster is by matriculation.
Dual enrollment with Lake City Community College is available to all qualified students.
